Class Descriptions

The following are descriptions for the the classes we offer at Moksha Yoga Winnipeg:

MOKSHA YOGA.  A unique series of 40 postures that combine the precision of therapeutic yoga and the foundations of traditional yoga in a specially heated room (37C to 39C). The moksha series is a cardiovascular workout that loosens, strengthens and tones the muscles, while calming the mind and reducing stress. The heat allows for deep, safe stretching and promotes detoxification of the skin, blood and muscles through sweat. Classes are suitable for all levels of ability in both 60 and 90 minute formats.  Class Capacity - 50

MOKSHA FLOW.  This fun class  takes the regular moksha series and connects the postures with more fluid movement. Offered in a 60 min format. Recommend 5-10 moksha classes before trying the flow.  Class Capacity - 50

MOKSHA MUSIC.  A 90 minute Moksha hot yoga class set to ambient music. Occasionally the music classes are accompanied by live musicians playing the guitar and drums!  Class Capacity - 50

MOKSHA SILENT.   The traditional Moksha Yoga series, practiced in silence.  The class is guided, without verbal instruction, by an instructor practicing the series at the front of the room.  The class allows the student to explore the depths of their own practice by providing an opportunity to investigate the sensations of the body and the breath more fully.  It is a chance to really feel the practice without auditory distraction. This class is best suited for students who are familiar with the series.   Class Capacity - 50

MOKSHA LEVEL 2. Continuing to build on the Moksha series that we know and love, these physically challenging classes are more of a flow style, and introduce more challenging balancing postures including arm balances.   To grow our yoga practice these classes will also involve both seated meditation and longer savasanas in class time.  Recommended you take 20-30 Moksha classes first.  Class Capacity - 50

MOKSHA COMMUNITY. Support our new teachers returning from training by attending Community Classes (CC). These 90 minute Moksha classes taught by our new teachers are  a min $5  karma donation or you can use your regular pass.    Class Capacity - 50

MOKSHA KARMA .   A 90 minute Moksha hot yoga class run by donation ($5.00 min). Funds raised go to local charities. Suitable for all levels.

HOT FLOW.   An active, flowing style yoga class (vinyasa yoga) proven to improve strength, cardiovascular health, and flexibility. This class is appropriate for all levels. You will be given options in each pose so that you feel challenged, yet successful. Without breaking the natural flow from pose to pose, the focus will be on alignment and breath.  Class Capacity - 50

HOT HATHA.   Designed to relieve stress and tension, while the heat stimulates deep muscle release, improves your body's pliability and deepens your yoga practice. This is an excellent non-weight bearing style of yoga for beginners, those who prefer a less vigorous class and for those experiencing illness, injury or chronic pain.  Class Capacity - 50

YANG/YIN. This class begins with a fluid sun salutation practice in order to warm the body and align breath with movement. The main body of the practice will be in the Yin Yoga tradition: long, deep holds of postures for 2-5 minutes allow the body to move beyond a muscular level and get into deep tissue work. This is a great practice to help you increase your range of motion. This class is challenging physically and mentally.   Class Capacity - 24

KIDS YOGA - MOKSHA MONKEYS.   60 minute class in our upstairs, non-heated studio where your child will develop motor skills, body awareness and confidence in a positive, interactive, supportive and fun environment. Parents take a 60 minute Moksha class at the same time.

PRE-NATAL YOGA. During pregnancy, you want to stay in shape and do what is best for your baby-to-be. Prenatal yoga is a wonderful way to do both. Whether you are new to yoga or already an experienced practitioner, you can enjoy the benefits of yoga while pregnant. Yoga classes are a great way to prepare yourself for the birthing process as well as enjoy the company of other pregnant women. Many a toddler's playgroup has emerged from the bonds forged in prenatal yoga classes!

ASHTANGA YOGA.  This physically challenging method of yoga asana involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. Class Capacity - 20
